I don’t usually like to take tours but there’s just some things you can’t do by yourself! There are a lot of companies that do the same evening desert safari – dune bashing, camel riding, henna, shisha, belly dancing and a BBQ. I was going to buy a tour on groupon but all the reviews were terrible so I searched for the best and got Funtours who I would definitely recommend. I paid 180dh, got picked up and dropped off at my hotel in a 4×4 shared with a Japanese couple and an Indian family.
We drove out of the city for about 45 mins until everywhere became just sand.
We stopped at some tourist shops by the side of the road to let air out of the tyres and for them to try very hard to sell me a head scarf to ride a camel or a photo with a falcon – no thank you! Soon we turned off the road..
..and waited for the huge convoy of Chinese tourists to pass, before we had the dunes to ourselves.
Our driver ragged the car up and down the dunes, and tipping over the edge driving sideways. Was very fun and not scary like I thought it would be from what people said on the reviews and it even put the little Indian boy to sleep! We stopped for photos..
Before driving onto the ‘safari camp’ which had various activities around the edge, and a stage in the middle.
It wasn’t too bad actually, I’d read awful things but I got to ride my camel for a little bit..
They didn’t seem to pleased, making noises like a dragon. The one behind tried to bite me on our ride, good he had his mouth thing on.
I got henna! Love it!
Watched the sunset..
Before we sat on cushions at our designated tables around the stage . The show started and the buffet opened – salads, pasta, hummus, chicken, beef and pitta bread mmm. The show was some belly dancing and men spinning in huge skirts?! But my favourite bit was watching the Indian man on our tour bopping along whilst filming it on his iPad – he looked so happy!
A lovely way to end my trip! It has been so so good but off home now for the summer 🙂
